The objective of the club is to seek to give all people living in Great Barton and the surrounding area who become members, an opportunity for gaining knowledge in the use of computers.
To achieve this, members will give their time, either teaching or learning, via training sessions on a one-to-one basis or in groups.
Help will be given for both the hardware (computers, printers, scanners, modems), the software (Windows, Word, Excel, Internet and other software) and the problems that members encounter.
The aim is that each member will after a short time be able to carry out all the computing tasks they have set themselves, and that some may move on to help others.
In order to benefit from this assistance members pay a modest fee of £12 per year.
The main Monthly Meetings are held generally on the last Monday of each month for nine months (excluding July, August and December). The date is changed if the last Monday of a month is a Bank Holiday. Members' guests and visitors are welcome to join these meetings.
Each one is held in the Village Hall starting at 2:00 pm and lasts for approximately 90 minutes. There is a short refreshment break after the business part of the meeting.
Short demonstrations/talks about computing topics follow with discussion among members relating to experiences of problems and their solution. The emphasis is very much on the helping hand.
We have online access so internet issues can be included.
Open Workshops are held on the second and third Mondays of the month (from 2:00 until 5:00 pm) in the Village Hall where various topics are discussed and problems solved (hopefully). They are open to all members. There is no need to book in advance. Wherever possible members can bring their own laptops and so address their issues on a familiar machine.
Drop-in sessionsstart at 2:00 pm in the Village Hall Annexe and are held on the first Monday of the month except Bank Holidays. Members are invited to attend with their laptops to work on projects away from distractions. Help will be available to address problems or queries.
A Mac Group meets on the third Thursday evening of the month.
