Open Workshop 2
Life After Windows Live Mail
As of January 10, 2017, Windows Essentials 2012 is no longer supported on Windows 10, and is unavailable for download.
Windows Essentials 2012 included Windows Movie Maker, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety and the OneDrive desktop app for Windows. Although it is no longer available for download, already installed applications will continue to work as they do today.
Many of our Club Members use Windows Live Mail and we are often asked is it OK to continue using it or what should we use in its place. This opens up quite a major topic. Many people have only the basic understanding of Email systems and are unsure what webmail is and how it differs from Windows Live mail and similar software. So our plan is to answer these and many more questions in an attempt to significantly improve your understanding of how email systems should be used.
We have planned two workshops that will aim to bring you up to speed with this topic. If you are still using Windows Live Mail you may want to think about alternatives and we will show you some of the best options available. If you don’t use it then you may find these workshops equally useful. Many people are only vaguely aware of the many features available in their own email systems and how they integrate with contacts and calendars for example.
Our first workshop will take a closer look at Webmail. These systems are now very powerful and can achieve everything that most mail users need and have the added advantages of reliability, simplicity and flexibility. So if you use hotmail , gmail or btinternet we will show you how to get the most out of these systems. In our second workshop on the 11th February we'll take a look at desktop based software similar to Windows Live Mail and show you what is available and how to set up one of these free alternatives.
